Important information on guided tours

• What security precautions should be taken?

  For security reasons, people and personal belongings/items are checked in the entrance area of Parliament. Items that may pose a threat will be removed and kept securely for the duration of your stay.
  Larger pieces of luggage may also not be taken into the Parliament Building. Storage of these large pieces of luggage is not possible on site due to lack of space.

• What items are prohibited in the Parliament Building?

  The entrance to the Parliament passes through a security check. The check is carried out by means of metal detector arcs and scanner lanes. Therefore, please anticipate waiting times. In principle, no objects may be taken into Parliament that could pose a risk to physical integrity or disturb the peace and order or dignity of parliamentary bodies. In particular, these include the following objects:

  • Weapons of all kinds (firearms, slashing and stabbing weapons) as well as objects with weapon-like effects (e.g. knives, scissors over 8cm, iron bars, chains)
  • Long sticks (with the exception of canes for the blind and walking aids for physically-impaired persons)
  • Stick umbrellas
  • Stones
  • Pyrotechnic articles
  • Bicycles, pedal scooters, and electric scooters
  • Ladders and folding chairs
  • Baggage items larger than 60 x 40 x 21 cm (must be left in the checkroom)
  • Glass bottles from 330 ml and metal bottles from 500 ml
  • Camera tripods from 30 cm
  • Animals (with the exception of assistance animals)

• Where is the meeting point for guided tours?

  Guided tours start in the Agora in the Demokratikum — Experience Parliament. You can ask for the meeting point for your guided tour at the information desk in the Agora.

• Cancellation of guided tours

  Due to parliamentary necessities, guided tours can be cancelled even on short notice (one day before). In this case, we will inform you by e-mail. We will ask you to book a new date.

• What do I need to gain access to the Parliament Building? (Access for booked groups)

  If you have booked a group tour, you do not need to register additionally for access to the Parliament Building. You will automatically receive a personal QR code with your booking confirmation; this is valid for all group participants to enter the Parliament Building (the maximum number of participants per group is 30). Different confirmations are available for the BMBWF and after consultation with the team for group bookings. Please bring the QR code (printed or on your mobile phone) and provide the security staff on site with a printed list of names (first and last name) of all participants. All participants must present an official photo ID (e.g. driver's license). Adolescents over the age of 14 must carry a valid photo ID (e.g. student ID). Security checks take place before admission to the Parliament Building (ID check, scanner line for individuals and personal belongings). Therefore, please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the guided tour.

• What do I need to gain access to the Parliament Building? (Access for individuals)

  If you have booked a public guided tour via the appointment calendar, you do not need to register additionally for access to the Parliament Building. After booking, you will first receive a registration confirmation. In a second mail, you will receive your personal QR code. Please show this code when entering the Building (printed out or on your mobile phone). In addition, an official photo ID is required. Before entering the Parliament Building, security checks will take place (ID check, scanner lanes for individuals and personal belongings). Therefore, please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the tour.

• Does the Parliament have barrier-free access?

  The main entrance to the Parliament Building has barrier-free access. You are welcome, regardless of whether you require acoustic or visual information, whether you have an assistance dog with you, or whether you are in a wheelchair or use a walking aid.

  Our staff is specially trained in working with people with disabilities and is happy to help!

• When is it not possible to book a guided tour?

  • Sitting days of the National Council and the Federal Council as well as days with special sessions convened on short notice
  • Sundays New Year's Day
  • Epiphany
  • Easter Monday
  • Labour Day
  • Ascension Day
  • Whit Monday
  • Corpus Christi
  • Assumption Day
  • Austrian National Holiday
  • All Saints' Day
  • Immaculate Conception
  • Christmas

• Can I move around freely in the Parliament Building after the tour?

  The visit to the Library, the Visitor Center Demokratikum - Experience Parliament, the café Agora and the Restaurant KELSEN is possible during the opening hours. Please note that you must register in advance to visit the restaurant.
